New Executive Takes Reigns in Calgary with Strong Mandate | 2009 CDCL AGM
November 13th, 2009
Calgary & District Cricket League held their AGM on Saturday November 7. The AGM was the best attended in recent memory, with 20 of 21 teams represented, and 58 out of 63 eligible votes being used.
After the 2009 Executive addressed the crowd with their final reports, the 2009 season was declared closed and all Executive positions vacant. For the first time in a number of years, there was multiple candidates for the President position, with Andrew Irving (Cavaliers) replacing incumbent Samarth Narula (St Johns) in a 34-24 result. Two more first timers, Usman Khan and Fakhar Abbas (both Crown) were elected unchallenged as Secretary and Junior Coordinator respectively. The only incumbent returning in 2010 is Treaurer Nadeem Atlaf (Glenmore), also elected unchallenged.
Challenging times await the new Executive, with the demand to play cricket in Calgary far surpassing the supply of suitable venues. Restoring relations with the City of Calgary will be high on the agenda, along with improving running and efficiency of the league and extending the development of junior and elite cricket.
